APART FROM THE ITEMS HE SENT US ABOUT IBH, COLIN JAILLER ALSO SENT IN A FEW PHOTOS, WITH A FEW FAMILIAR FACES, ON A TRIP TO CONEXPO, HOUSTON, AND TO THE MARATHON LE TOURNEAU FACTORY IN LONGVIEW, TEXAS.
Colin wrote his own introduction, as follows…
" The occasion was Conexpo in Houston, I cant remember the year, but Fergy had just been made supreme leader. The photos of Les, Tony, Euan and myself were taken on a day trip to Galveston.
The images of "Supermac" were taken at the Marathon Le Tourneau factory, who had flown us all down from Houston to Longview, Texas, also known as "Titty City", because when seen from the air, the two domed plants on either side of the highway looked just like a pair !!
Very amusing, but what we didnt realise until later was that they were full of machine tools running 24 hours a day, making shell cases for the military. Mind you every employee was given a company bible when they joines, and were all expected to attend the church for the daily service at 09.00 hours.
So that was allright then !!"
The first batch shows our boys relaxing…. well what else would you do on a trip like that !! Easily recognisable are Leslie Cutting, A.H.F.Nelmes, The Laird of Dunblane (EFM), CJ himself, and a few others which are not known, unless of course, you know differently……..Tony definitely looking like the prawns in front of him have not agreed with him……looks a bit like Blackie in the second one (?)…….
Next we have a visit to Le Tourneau, mostly of the Laird, comparing his not unsubstantial height to the wheel of one of the giant loaders, up in the cab, and then checking out the bucket……
….and lastly, a couple of units demonstrating, a wheeled LT dozer, and the loader being compared to the 72-81….shows what a big mother it is, as the Terex is dwarfed.
