NEXT ONE ON THE LIST, 1957, AGAIN FROM ROB BROWN`S STORE OF GOODIES.
Unfortunately for some of us, this is the last year when they used the stylised paintings on the front cover, as from 1958, we have real photos….good ones mind, but they dont have that old-fashioned feeling that the paintings have.
So feast your eyes on the front cover of 1957, its the last of its type you will see in this series.
As Terex never built an S-14 (so we are told), this has to be an S-7, of which almost 1500 were built worldwide, but as we have no GB records left (thanks to Roger & Graham, and Derek & Clive !!), we do not know how many were built & used here. There was one for sale a few years back, and was probably the last one working in anger when it came from Little Barford power station, and we regret now not finding the £1500 being asked for it at the time.
The everpresent world map…..not the best one produced in our opinion, and its design seems to reflect a much later period of style in advertising, something you would almost expect to find in the jazzed-up 1960`s.
Premier of Queensland officially opens BH Australia`s new depot in Brisbane. Obviously a lot more British influence abounded in those days…….not a string vest, a tinny, or a flip-flop to be seen amongst the guests………
…….and a couple of shots of the place.
Same in Toronto, Canada, new works, a shot we have seen before, but here with a view or two of the inside as well, although bottom right, you can see the edge of the truck body in reception which we have also seen before.
Yet another new depot at Port Arthur, but the dignitaries weren`t at that opening, that shot, including Messrs Sunley & Shapland, is from the Toronto wing-ding.
Now we have Portugal, same expansion story……with mention of the Paradela Dam, worlds biggest rock-fill dam at that time, with Eucs almost working around the clock to keep up. The depot expansion was coming thick & fast in the late 1950`s……makes you quite envious really, seeing the parlous state we appear to be in today.
Now we have the UK expansions, with the new depots at Cardiff & Tynemouth….but note on the map where the other depots were at the time….Wrexham, Leeds & Walton on Thames (???)….what was going on at that time to have a depot at Walton on Thames !! Anybody know ??
This page & the following one are together really, showing large exports of Euc trucks going out to "The Empire", that is, India and Rhodesia in these cases, for opencast coal mining, and the Kariba dam project respectively.
A couple of pages shwoing our products in various countries around the world.
This one should have been included in Days Out, with fifty of the great and good on a jolly to USA to the first American Road Show in Chicago for 10 years, looking at the (then) biggest mining shovel going. Below that a couple of dignitaries with three "suits" in Northampton……does anbody recognise any of them ?? Could that be Bert Samek on the right, or is that gent a little tall for Bert !! Thought we could work out where the truck was going from the shipping marks on the bumper, but we have no idea where "SLING HOOKS HERE AND BACK THROUGH REAR TYRES" is !!!
First year that a Cummins advert had appeared in these reports…….and below, yet another view of 25, but a slightly different, more modern slant to it, with the trees left out, and several Rollers parked in front….very nice !! Also the slogan telling the world where it is, and what it was, bragging really, and why not !! Sorry, no un PC advert this time….change of policy obviously.
