THE NAME IS FAMILIAR, AT LEAST THE SURNAME, AND TO BE FOUND BELOW ARE A COUPLE OF MESSAGES FROM HIS GODSON, MR LESLIE MORRISON, WHO HAS KINDLY FURNISHED US WITH THEM TODAY.

hi im not sure who im replying to but i have been trying to find out about the great man himself nial dingwall hodge as i new him personally my name is douglas manson and was living at the big house as we all new it for a few months and we had a little fallout over my pocket money and i moved out to the caravan next to woodlands cottage a few weeks later he died it was the saddest day ov my life i was only 16 at the time and it is true what say u dont no what you have lost till it has gone i still mis him so much to this day i now live in Ulverston cumbria england i was up at turnberry just a few months ago and went to the big house with my girlfriend to show her were i lived and was very sad to see the condition it was in infact i had a bit of a cry it was so sad to see witch was once that great house were i spent many a night talking to the man and great friend i called sir please could you let me no any more about his life im sure of what he told me i all ready no a bit about him please get back to me .
Gentlemen, The Blackwood Hodge link came to via James Sunley yesterday. Thank you for the profile of my father under personalities. He actually died in 1970 aged 46. He was a Blackwood Hodge man who worked hard, played hard ,and loved what he did.

Having known off Niall Hodge whilst he lived at Turnberry and his great charity work for disabled children and his giving flowers to Girvan Hospital He was buried At Girvan’s Byne hill Cemetry my mother and I always put flowers in his vase when we visit the cemetry we have a few relatives resting their Niall and his quote as he was not the most handsome off men was If they dont want to marry me for me then their not going to marry me for my money MAY HE REST IN PEACE HE WAS A GOOD MAN
I loved coming across this mans name Niall Hodge as I only knew him as Mr Hodge the man who gave us a half crown each when we stayed in his cottage on Turnberry airport and he would say here is a penny, it was the equivalent to 10 weeks pocket money to all us boys, and then gave us a ride in his Rolls Royce up and down his Airstrip/Runway I sat on his knee in the drivers side so it appeared if I was driving a Real Rolls Royce which absolutely filled us all with happiness ,we used to go to his Cottage for a break every couple of year by way of a gift I presume he gave to my place of residence at that time approx 1964, “Quarriers Homes” it was great ,he also supplied a freezer filled with ice cream and lollies for us ,I’m now 65 and still talk about the millionaire who was good to us 50 odd years ago. there were 48 cottages in Quarriers and I think they all got to stay there at some time or other, we all loved it when we heard were chosen to go to turnberry
