HERR GEVERS HAS BEEN BUSY AGAIN, AND AMONGST THE MANY IMAGES HE HAS SENT FROM HOLLAND IN THE LAST FEW DAYS, ARE SOME RARE PHOTOS OF THE "EUCLID B.V. LOADER".

Not everyone below a certain age will know too much about this particular Euclid item, unless of course you have a copy of Mr Orlemann`s book, as it was only manufactured between 1946 & 1955, being developed during WW2. Even if you are not familiar with it, the following series of photos will educate you as to how it worked, and very efficiently apparently, in the right type of material.

The full name is Euclid Blade-Veyor Loader….hummm….no wonder they called it BV ! The story on the photos themselves is quite interesting, as Herr Gevers bought them on eBay, from a lady in Brazil, whose father had either taken them, or picked them up in England !!

These are the first three we exhibit, and you will see why we know they are from England, as Laing is painted all over them !!BL2

We think that this model is the 9BV. Classified as a 35 foot short conveyor, it was powered by a GM6055C rated at 190 hp.BL3Whilst we are on these three, there has been some difference of opinion as to which Cat tractor is doing the donkey work….as this 9BV weighed in at 60,000 lbs, it need some effort to drag it through the soil, and some think the D8 of the day was too small, and that it is an 18A or 19A model D9 doing the donkey work….perhaps we have a referee out there who can settle the point ?? No mention of the bottom dumps yet…..we think that these are possibly 43FDT units, using a GM 6-71 with a Fuller 5 speed manual, pulling a 13 cu yd 58W Bottom Dump, which were both around in 1948. Needless to say, in this period we are looking at, everything was imported from USA.

Lastly on these trucks. we like the early ROPS/FOPS system seen above quite clearly, probably more FOPS than anything, because if the BV operator got too excited before the bottom dump driver had lined up correctly, he was liable to give that driver a serious headache quite quickly, so nice to see Mr Laing looking after his men !!

To follow this up, there are 5 more shots of BV`s operating, and we are including them all, as it is not very likely that too many people will come up with any more !! We dont know where these others are taken, but as it is unlikely we will see too many more BV`s, we are showing them all.BL1

Quick intervention….an early attempt by Cat to produce an "overhung" scraper is seen in the bottom left hand foreground….as most of us know, Euclid were several years in front of the boys from Peoria with that particular design….nuff said !!BL 6
