WE ARE WORKING OUR WAY THROUGH THE HUGE AMOUNT OF PHOTOS THAT AD GEVERS HAS SENT TO US FROM HOLLAND…..ALL ORIGINAL STUFF, MOST NOT EVEN IN MR ORLEMANN` BOOK, IN FACT AD THINKS THEY CAME DIRECT FROM THE FACTORY IN U.S.A. AT SOME TIME.
Tonight we have a small series of images showing some trucks available at a particular time, (between 1969 & 1980 for sure, but exactly ????), although the nomenclature used appears to be "before its time", ie the use of "33" series on machines that were not produced here with that numbering……perhaps some of the Terex chappies who are hopefully tuning in and turning on will advise ??
Firstly a set of individual trucks, all designated "33 series" but never seen here as they are shown, and only a spec sheet on one is known to exist as far as we are concerned…..tell us what you think………..
The 33-22 was sold in Canada, initially as the R-22, and was basically the old Euclid 103FD, later sold in USA and Europe as the 33-03, with a DD 6-71N, the same engine that powered the R-15, and the later R-17……
….the exception being the 33-15, the only truck in this bunch to carry that nomenclature…..
…and the whole family together, including a "33-35", unfortunately not shown individually, and looking suspiciously like an R-35B…..this must be a very rare image, certainly the first time we have seen a collection of this like.
A couple of familiar models next, an R-50 with a R-45 style cab, and higher profile bowl than we saw here, and an R-65, B16LD, initially built in Canada. In 1971, the model identification was changed to the 33-65 (as above), though again, it never appeared in UK under that guise.That info probably dates this image as 1969/70.
Lastly, we have a series of the 33-15, or Titan as it was also known, going through its many guises, and finally shown as the Marathon Le Tourneau T-2200 (our last photo is of the T-2000) it eventually became after being purchased from Diesel Division in 1985. There were some 33-15B`s in France a couple of years ago, and got snapped up very quickly when they came onto the market.
We start off with what we assume was a publicity shot, of a young muckshifter and his admirer, with the real thing behind….."my Dads got a big one".
The 33-15 was diesel electric, built by the Diesel Division of GM in Ontario, Canada, and was powered by a DD 16-149TI, although under Le Tourneau, an option was the Cummins KTTA-50C, and the capacity rose from 150 short tons in 1971 to 200 short tons in its latter configurations. In 1981, DD in Canada produced the Titan 33-15C, the name that it retained through the earlier days of Le Tourneau, until 1994.
