WE SADLY LEARNED RECENTLY OF THE DEATH OF IAN VICKERSTAFF OF TEREX, A GREAT FRIEND OF BLACKWOOD HODGE AS A COMPANY, AND MANY OF THE PEOPLE IN IT.
MARTIN EDE WROTE AN OBITUARY FOR IAN WHICH WE PUBLISHED ON THE FRONT PAGE AT THE TIME, BUT SUCH WAS THE ESTEEM THAT IAN WAS HELD IN BY THE PEOPLE HE KNEW AT B.H., MARTIN HAS COME UP WITH SOME PHOTOS, AND WE HAVE TRANSFERRED THEM & THE TEXT TO TEREX SECTION, THE IMAGES SHOWING IAN AT WORK & PLAY WITH HIS B.H.MATES.
Firstly, Martin`s words…….
..and now the images supplied by Martin, some seen before, but all reflecting Ian`s close connection with The Company…..
…a Product Line Orientation course from 1977 at Newhouse, with Ian under the "T" of Terex, and some of the other suspects shown include Dan Willis, Dougie Kemp, MSE, Peter Spooner, John Colver, Alan Matchett, Ernie Summers, and Les Massey (not N`pton one), and from overseas there are Jean-800wi.jpg.jpgerre Nicolay from Luxembourg, and an old friend of ours from Germany, Gerno Martsfeld, also sadly no longer with us…..
……even if Ian (far left) wasn`t in this one, it was worth repeating anyway, just to have another good chuckle at "those trousers" , again from 1977, a B.H.Sales School once more at Newhouse, wearing "the gear" bought for the Jubilee Celebrations in Hyde Park. Talk about the usual suspects, they are all on this one….and we think Taylor has his old cub scout belt holding his "loons" up !!
This last set of images is actually a joke told against MSE, but fair play to him, he supplied the material himself, and as Ian, along with Kenny Coughlan, was one of the main instigators of the joke played on him, at yet another Sales School in February 1988, we thought it apt to include it in this little tribute to Ian.
The story goes…..MSE was on his way to Scotland in Ted Bell`s Carlton, which was known to have a dodgy petrol guage. Ted was confident that there was enough fuel to get to the Bothwell Bridge hotel…..but sadly not !! Simon Bridge saved the day when the Carlton ran out on the M6, and after Martin`s late arrival, the wags got together to remind him of his frailty in reading a guage.
A musical telegram was arranged, see image 1, in the shape of a BP Girl, much to the great amusement of all and sundry, see image 2, and image 3 gives you the verse so eloquently written by the joint efforts of Terex & BH rhymers, though we dont think it would trouble the Poet Laureate !!
Martin obviously at ease with the attractive BP Girl……
…the rest seeing the funny side, including Peter Bourne, Ian, Macho, Gerry McGuckin, Simon Bridge, Les Massey (N`pton one), Kenny, Eric Belcher, Danny Lightfoot & someone who we are sure is Alan Hadwin behind Danny, the fag being the giveaway !!
Lastly we have the verse which must have taken them at least 5 minutes to write.
Thanks Ian, for your friendship & guidance to BH & your friends there throughout the years.
