DURING HIS TIME AT BARNSLEY DEPOT, KEN LANSLEY SAW THE COMPLETION OF THE M1 AS FAR AS NORTH AS IT WENT FOR SEVERAL DECADES, AND LUCKILY HAD HIS CAMERA HANDY ON ONE OCCASION IN 1966/67.
Dowsett Engineering had a slice of the contract in that area, and the following 2 images show their Euclid TS-24`s operating with the TC-12`s that they also bought for that job.
In the depot itself, Ken also got a shot of a rare item, what was possibly one of the first purpose built coal scrapers, as unlikely as it might seem, an S7 with side, front & rear bowl extensions, and a two man cab to accomodate driving training on the CEGB…..
….looks strange to us today that such a small machine should be built up to accomodate coal hauling, compared with the TS-40C`s we saw many years later. Same model again, in company with some R-22`s, and a couple of TS-14`s, again, in Barnsley yard.
