WE HAVE RECEIVED TWO LOTS OF IMAGES SO FAR FROM KEN LANSLEY REGARDING THE MANGLA DAM PROJECT IN PAKISTAN DURING THE 1960`S, AND HE HAS RIFLED HIS DRAWERS ONCE MORE FOR A FEW MORE, BUT SADLY, THESE WILL BE THE LAST, AS HE HAS REACHED THE BOTTOM OF THE PILE.
They are made up of several landscapes, a couple of machine shots, and some of his colleagues out on the job at the same time.
Firstly the views, beginning with something that looks a little strange, but when you know what you are looking at….
….through the swan neck of a Euc scraper, you can see the foothills of the Himalayas in the distance, covered in snow, but only when you magnify it. Next we have the first of a few shots in the Khyber Pass, and in the first one, Ken is looking at the badges carved in stone, of all the British Regiments that had fought there over the centuries…..they could add a few more now !!
Another anomoly…..you can just see the whitish marking on the rock in the centre of the image…..believe it or not, thats the border marked out between Pakistan & Afghanistan !!
Still at the Khyber pass, Graham Stark with a couple of the local plod…..
….and Mr Stark again, back on the dam, with some of the local workforce….
Only one photo left of machinery on this job, and a sorry end to one local drivers career, as he was summarily sacked for trying to turn a little too sharp with his B100 bottom dump….Ouch !!
….December 1962, and our trusty lads have had enough of the sun for a few days, so decide to trek up to the Himalayan foothills, and see a bit of snow for Christmas………
…KL & Cecil George filling up the Land Rovers on the way..but when they got a bit further..
…having only the pullovers they had brought with them to keepout the cold, our trusty adventurers legged it back for the plains and warmth….Bill McLean, Cec, and Arthur Blason posing just before the return.
The last shots of the BH Gang we shall see possibly, firstly Arthur & KMK are flanked by Ole Olsen (far left) and Dick Soutts (far right) from Euc GB & Canada…..
…and lastly, but as they say, by no means least, we bid farewell to Mangla Dam Project with KL & Ralph Harding near the border outside Lahore, with signpost to London showing 6372 miles !!
