WE RECENTLY RECEIVED A PHOTOGRAPH FROM A BUSINESS AQUAINTANCE IN SCOTLAND, IAN RITCHIE, AND IT SHOWED A TEREX TS14B IN NEW ZEALAND BEING HANDED OVER BY WHAT WE IMAGINED MUST HAVE BEEN THE DEALER AT THE TIME, TO THE CUSTOMER.

The people were named as Keith Wilson, the Dealer, and Jack Anderson the buyer. Ian has a friend who visits NZ quite a lot, and knew Mr Wilson well, in fact, he was his godfather. We decided to check out the detail of the machine (if possible) with the current Terex Dealer in NZ, Alister Mclaughlin, MD of TransDiesel Ltd. The image follows……NZ 1972
…..and Alister replied …..

"Keith Wilson was the owner of a company which was and still is called Wilson Brothers Ltd, based in Invercargill which is right at the bottom of the South Island. They also had  a branch in Dunedin.

They were the Terex dealers in these areas for many years.

This was when Clyde Engineering Ltd were the main NZ Terex dealers. Keith Ramsey who I was on about was the majority owner and MD of Clyde Engineering Ltd. This is who I served my apprenticeship with.

They are still in business and the company is run by Keith's son Alfred. These days they are mainly a bearing and engineering supplies company and are in quiet a big way with branches in several more towns and cities throughout NZ. Keith was a true gentleman and straight shooter.

Jack Anderson is one of the legends of the South Island muck shifting industry and as far as I'm aware is still alive living in Nelson at an age that must be approaching 90. Jack was originally from a place called Kennington which is about 5  miles north of Invercargill.

The old bugger has had many ups and downs and has been broke more than once. In his day though he was a big Euclid Terex customer and had a large fleet of TS 14s, C 6,  82-30, 82-40, and at least one 82-50 that I remember well. He also had a 72-71 (that's what probably broke him once) and I think today he still has an S7.

I'd say that photo was taken in about 1973 in the deep south somewhere. In NZ the cabs on all Terex scrapers were optional and they supplied them throughout the 70s like that. The 14B didn't arrive here till about 72 and Jack got a few early on so that's how I arrive at my estimate of the date.
