RECENTLY RECEIVED AN E-MAIL FROM CHRIS FOGGIN, WHO MOSTLY WORKED IN AFRICA FOR THE HODGE, AND HE SUBSEQUENTLY SENT US THIS CONTRIBUTION, WHICH OF COURSE WE HOPE HE WILL EXPAND UPON IN DUE COURSE.
To The Editors.
In response to your request for some record of my employment with BH, I have been racking my brains to put some things together about my time in Africa.
I first went out to BH Zambia in 1965 & joined the service department.
After being on field service for a few years, I came into the main new workshops at Kitwe to build up the engine repair & overhaul of mainly GM 71 series engines.
After some 10 years there I returned to the UK in 1975 and then went out to Sierra Leone for 15 months.
I (with the help of Graham Lampshire) have put together as many names of people that we could remember working with during that time.
General Managers BH Zambia …….. Ken Johnson, Al Johnson (not related), Max Beaton, Jimmy James, John Williams.
Names I can recall from other departments, not in any particular order….
Dave Turner, Roy Smith, Martin Wright, Alan Wilson, Mick Maloney, Graham Lampshire, Ron Block, Dennis Haven, Brian Taylor, Ray Hackworth, Arthur Lay, Gerry Gadstone, Paul Rossan, Glyn Mathews, Fred Pole, Robbie Matthews, John Appleton, Mike McDougal, Jes Jones, John Bailey, Rob Eastman, Keith Billington, Mike Horner, Dick Tebbutt, Alan Paterson, Paul Montgomery, Dennis Isbister, John Mace, Reg Parr, Josh Weller, Harry Fox, Brian Mellet, Tony Brown, Colin Larret, Alister Tomm, Brian Thompson, Bill Nesbitt, Barney Mathews, Ivan Grant, Harry Rutter, Tony Taylor, Jack Cornelius, Mike Pigou.
In Sierra Leone ….. Mike Feasey, Malcolm Davis, Bob Dickie, Garth Tyler.
After 4 years spent in Saudi Arabia with General Contracting Company, (a Cummins Distributor) I returned to reside in the UK permanently, & worked for a Volvo Distributor, Pipeline Contractors, & B-Trac Equipment, with Martin Wright.
I retired from there in 2008.
3 years later I was diagnosed with cancer and I am thankfully in remission at present.
I will try to fin those fotos & send to you.
Kind regards, Chris Foggin. 13/5/2012
