This article is in Oddballs, because to be honest, we didn`t quite know where to put it, so perhaps a little unfairly, as it was anything but odd, some photos of a Carlisle grader, with Hodgites crawling all over it somewhere !!

Sometime probably in the 1950`s, (somebody out there will tell us) B.H built and sold Carlisle graders.

We have had a few images of such machines over the years, but not many. John Rogers, son of Tony, has sent in 3 shots from whats look like early days, and even with a few names.

No doubt who this character is, who has featured in many a BH site image on this site….Bill Stewart, working on a grader which is either on hire to or owned by Lovatt.

JR1

John reckons that this is taken in the early 1950`s according to how his Dad looks, far left in sleeveless pullover, and also supplies names as follows…..George Richards and Ken Fighill, though he (and we) cannot say who that applies to, although maybe the two "suits" are Lovatt men.

Two more shots follow, you can see Tony leaning on the 10lb sledge in both, and check out the Standard Vanguard service vans being used. Never seen those before !! Even got a Willys Jeep in the background.

JR4

We have no idea of the site, so if there is anybody left who is old enough to remember any people or places, we would be very grateful, as we are grateful to John Rogers for loaning us these images.

Lastly, one more shot of a Carlisle……this photo loaned to us recently, shows a grader on the back of yet another B.H. delivery truck, this time an 8 legger, but its not Ernie`s Atkinson.

Carlisle

No idea of the location, but it looks a little like a few steels works type buildings seen in the past, but as usual, if anybody knows where it is, dont hesitate to let us know.
