It was reported with sadness this week that the former MD of Blackwood Hodge Dublin, John L Goor, had died suddenly.
John had contributed to B.H.M. describing a fantastic journey across the Atlantic by boat to the West Indies, a brave feat, but in addition he was well known within the group by colleagues from England who had worked across in Ireland during the JCB days, who included Tony Vernon-Smith, and Peter Goodley when he worked for both JCB and later for B.H.
John recently aboard his boat.
The sad news was first advised to us by T.V-S, and also from Archie Hamilton, and Les Sanderson, both of whom worked with John for many years.
We also had contact from John`s son, Louis Goor, who has kindly allowed us to reproduce the message that went out to the employees of his and John`s company, J.L.Goor Limited. It is as follows……
"Dear All in JLGoor,
I cannot thank you all enough for all of your kind and generous messages and thoughts over the last few days.
Dad sadly died on Friday 10th at about 2 o’clock while he was out fishing alone catching mackerel.
It would appear that he had a heart attack and fell in to the water shortly afterwards.
A very kind French man called Benoit who was heading out fishing came across the boat and dad floating in the water, he was face up with his life jacket on and clear of any water in his lungs.
Emergency services and the coastguard were immediately called and were all on the scene in minutes. They all tried to resituate Dad, but sadly to no avail.
One thing for sure, Dad died in his happy place and doing what he loved more than anything.
Provisionally, I can let you know that on Thursday evening we will be having a removal in Enniskerry St Mary’s Parish Church at 6pm and then a funeral on Friday morning at 11:30am followed by a burial in Curtlestown cemetery.
I think we will close JLGoor completely on Thursday and Friday as a mark of respect to our founder Mr John L Goor.
You are all more than welcome to join us for any or all of this process – my Mum, and sisters would love to have you all there.
Suffice to say, I would like to thank you again for everything you are all doing for JLGoor, our wonderful company and customers.

We are sure that all that knew John will wish their condolences to be forwared to his family, and if any of you that did know him are able, you are more than welcome to attend the Friday funeral.
